Instead of making the chapel highly visible, in order to distinguish a separation from the nearby amusement park, the chapel is instead concealed and sunken with the dense vegetation of the forest. Upon parking, the approach to the chapel follows the four stages of Penance. The intention is a journey from the entry point where one starts as sinful and repentant. Once the users reach the chapel structure itself at the end of the journey, they are to feel cleansed and purified before the mass service. The form of the chapel itself was intended to be pure and simple in shape. The continuous curve’s geometry is informed by numbers taken from the Bible as illustrated above. The result is an elliptical floor plan with irregular seating arranged from the site’s contour topography.

About 65 percent of its entire population live in the rural areas. Pambujan is a rural fourth-class municipality in this province with a population of 32,000. Lacking a proper hospital, in 2009, the Diocese of Catarman, Northern Samar, appealed to the Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica’s Priory for assistance in building a mission hospital. Inside the hospital courtyard is a small chapel for the worship and prayers of patients and sisters. The Chapel is formed by folding planes that come together as if folded in prayer. As praying hands or a kneeling figure, this abstract form creates a hopeful seeking mood appropriate to the setting. A form that is in fact inspired by the roofs of nearby houses, the Chapel is a familiar space to the locals made intriguing by an unfamiliar scale. The Chapel Roof becomes the walls. Roof and wall are one, and the whole structure is in fact one continuous mass. The wall planes are made of treated abaca fibers called ‘”almacan” wrapped around a lightweight steel structure. The structure itself is a sculptural skeleton of relatively soaring proportions. It rises at the center and tapers to its four corners reaching out to the edges of the courtyard. The entry portal as well as the back of the altar are bordered by a pair of stained glass windows, creating a mirrored imagery between entry and ascension. As a vital part of every church in this religiously devout Catholic country, the chapel serves as the heart of the entire compound and it is around this prostrate form that the daily activities of the hospital goes on. This phenomenon is commonly associated with finding calmness despite unruly movement and achieving sanctuary. It is contrasted by the crest, which is the highest point a wave reaches before crashing that results in a soft, white wash of foam made of fine bubbles that balances the dynamic movement of water. The site of the project is at the corner of Salinas Street and La Guardia Street in barangay Lahug. It sits among low-rise commercial buildings and residential subdivisions. The site’s advantage lies in its proximity to the Cebu I.T. Park and Cebu Business Park. The area is popular among the local youth for its many commercial establishments. The project is on a 988 sqm lot wherein a 9,375 square meter boutique hotel will rise. With 17 storeys, 2 basements, 126 rooms, 2 Grand Ballrooms and a public plaza that continues the commercial strip existing on the site. The main lobby, café, and bar lounge emulates the ripple effect of waves through the use of undulating curves on feature walls and non-rectilinear furniture. White Calacatta marble flooring is used to create the illusion of waves moving through its grains and to give the effect of understated luxury. Different shades of teal and cobalt peak through within the area to break the bright neutrality of the space. Throughout the design of the different amenities, the ripple concept is applied through the different layers and levels of straight lines that give the illusion of depth and vastness. Paired with wood elements, the spaces become a quaint settings that exude warmth, rigidity, and stability to the otherwise, light and free-flowing space. The bedroom and studio units present a simulation of ripples where the spaces seamlessly leads to another. Elements of the crest are being reflected through the light-colored walls, plush furniture and curved edges of wall and built-in counters. The use of neutral colors blend with the warm wood elements and cerulean accents, creating an inviting environment of privacy and relaxation.

The concept works around the two existing buildings designed by the National Artist - Architect Leandro Locsin. ‘The East Grid’ was named after its location in the East Triangle. The word ‘grid,’ represents power grids representing the four major power sector companies it will host, as well as Locsin’s grid of columns. Five main design points were synthesized in master planning the Diliman site. The first is the East Grid as a gathering point or hub. Second is the dialogue between old and new which WTA hopes to achieve by enhancing the presence of the Locsin building through open courtyards and grid reflections on-grid and mass. A multi-dimensional landscape is central to creating a holistic high-rise development. Engaging and active green spaces throughout the vertical floor space of the development will create a rich and dynamic program. This works in conjunction with the firm’s other design goals—to enhance work, life, and health through biophilic open spaces. The design embodies energy-efficient systems and innovative and sustainable design ideas. The East Grid integrates pedestrian-friendly spaces, interactive installations, bike trails, green promenades, alfresco spaces, and play areas into a development that will ensure a net leasable space of about 400,000 square meters.
