< Back Emerging Design Voices Take Center Stage WTA Architecture and Design Studio 10 July 2025 The Anthology End of Year Show 2025 culminated with a compelling Thesis Presentation segment that placed a spotlight on the next generation of architects and designers. The event spotlighted 27 shortlisted thesis projects , carefully selected from a total of 147 submissions received from architecture students across the Philippines. Organized by WTA Architecture and Design Studio , the presentation served as a culminating event for this year’s Anthology program. Designed to champion emerging voices in architecture, it provided a formal platform for select students to present their undergraduate thesis work to a panel of professionals, mentors, and peers. Each shortlisted thesis was chosen for its design rigor, conceptual strength, and relevance to contemporary architectural and urban issues. Topics ranged from climate-responsive design and post-disaster housing to heritage conservation, adaptive reuse, and social infrastructure. The diversity of themes reflected the breadth of concerns facing today’s young designers—and the depth of their engagement with them. Following the presentations, the selected works were showcased in an accompanying exhibit at the UE Door Hardware Showroom. The exhibition provided a more in-depth look at each proposal, allowing guests to engage with drawings, models, research, and design narratives in an informal setting. The exhibit remained open to the public for a limited time, further extending the reach of the student work. The Anthology End of Year Show continues to emphasize the role of design education in shaping the future of the built environment. By bridging the gap between academic exploration and professional discourse, the event reinforces Anthology’s mission to cultivate a more inclusive and forward-thinking design culture in the Philippines. Originally designed by Leandro V. Locsin, the bungalow boasts a commanding roof over adobe-clad load bearing walls. The original essence and character of the house has been preserved, reconfiguring only minimal portions of the home to suit the new user’s needs. Due to its low lying coastal geography and mountainous landscape, the city of Catbalogan is at risk from natural hazards such as landslides, floods, and storms. Additionally, the steadily increasing population has put a strain on resources, property, and the infrastructure. Sky City aims to tackle these issues as it will be built 120 meters above sea level, creating opportunities for development while being naturally sheltered by the mountain ranges. It will be designed to include residential, commercial, and governmental cores that will be powered from renewable sources, and will be planned together with pedestrian and cyclist friendly spaces to reduce transport emissions. SKY CITY HALL The Sky City Hall will be the new city hall in Catbalogan. The project will take up 2 hectares of the 440-hectare Sky City development. It will serve as an expansion from the current city hall with a goal to masterplan and pioneer mountaintop sustainable living as a model for future developments. Locating the main City Hall at a higher terrain will also minimize the risk of floods and encourage the complete expansion of the new city. PROJECT DRIVERS The concept for the Sky City Hall is driven by four objectives. It aims to encourage public participation and transparency by designing spaces that result in heightened interconnectivity between the government and society. It celebrates socio-cultural identity by incorporating cultural symbolism in architectural elements and by encouraging social interactions through public spaces. The city hall seeks to enhance community connections, fostering a sense of belonging by including locals of all skill backgrounds in the creation and development of the new city hall. Lastly, it reflects and responds to local biodiversity by working with the existing terrain and using native species to further mitigate environmental degradation. COMMUNAL CORE Having direct access to communal spaces for everyone to use reflects the government’s priorities in increasing civic trust and public participation. The central spine achieves this by connecting public and private areas on a clear route, thus creating a sense of interconnectivity between government staff and visitors.

White Calacatta marble flooring is used to create the illusion of waves moving through its grains and to give the effect of understated luxury. Different shades of teal and cobalt peak through within the area to break the bright neutrality of the space. Throughout the design of the different amenities, the ripple concept is applied through the different layers and levels of straight lines that give the illusion of depth and vastness. By providing various activities for people to engage in, the project encourages the workers and visitors to engage in social activities and healthier lifestyles. The project especially focuses on the office workers in the development. It aims to serve as a stress reliever from the hectic 24/7 office environment. Moreover, it will be the newest place for sports activities for the people of the city. In the present working environment, it is no longer just an amenity to have areas for physical activities, it has now become a necessity to have spaces like these within reach from work to accommodate the basic physical needs of the people. In order to promote a healthier lifestyle, a communitybased approach is considered for the sports center. The users, may it be visitors or the working people, can move around freely inside the development by designing the sports center as a public space for social interaction. The overall planning of the sports park intends to encourage light physical activities such as walking, jogging, biking or simply just strolling around. Outdoor spaces are integrated into the building and indoor spaces are extended to the outside to blur the lines between private and public spaces. Urban furniture such as the landscape bench that doubles as a covered walk provides a unique space to observe the games as well as creates a walkable environment for the other users. The building facade captures the human movement as a dynamic element of the design. The Assistant will be an active member of the Business Development team responsible for communicating WTA’s identity, ethos, and diverse body of work, from architectural projects to events, exhibitions, artist collaborations, and social media. The successful candidate will be responsible for press communication, content production for internal and external channels and collateral such as presentations and booklets, and ongoing research to craft project narratives.
