Consisting of three towers - one office and two residential with retail spaces, High Gardens provides a community that promotes work, live and play. This development hopes to find the missing link in Parañaque, where residents seek relief from the stresses of city life. Each of the two residential towers is intervened with openings to promote continuous airflow and visual transparencies. The corners are curved to encourage passive cooling and provide breathing spaces. The garden is elevated to the fifth floor to transform the ground floor as a host of desirable retail spaces. By elevating the garden and allocating wider sidewalks,, the complex prioritizes human activity over cars. The public promenade on the ground floor connects the various building programs into a continuous circulation. The design embeds connections at its core. Green spaces function to programmatically connect different building functions and act as sanctuaries to reconnect with oneself amid a busy city.

Playful curves in bright, warm colors are at the forefront of its façade, flaunting a burst of color that breaks the monotonous backdrop of the city. This wall of color is actually the shared service corridor that joins the nursing home and child care facility. It symbolizes the backbone of these two otherwise different buildings --- a set support spaces that fuel the facilities' operations. In appreciation of the unseen efforts of our caregivers and houseparents, the design makes it a point to showcase our unsung heroes by painting them as the beating heart of residential care.

They feed people tremendous amounts of knowledge, present to man something of his own in ways more tangible, more real, more artistic. Architecture for books and architecture for the arts are two typically separate programs. Their fusion proposes a new learning model where the truth that they are both learning and social spaces is highlighted. They challenge the people to go beyond what is written and explore what has been created, to go beyond what has been crafted and explore the how’s, what’s and why’s. The aim is to create an architecture that invites curiosity and cultivates knowledge. The programs complement each other to allow users to respond well to these two challenges, providing them an experience more than just different, but more so fulfilling. Having the library and museum combined produces architecture more powerful, more influential than when taken separately. Man that has evolved is suited to architecture that has likewise evolved, thus the marriage between the two. It is a venue for a different kind of experience – far from just the scent of thousands of pages, or the drama of the aisles lined by displays. A PART OF HISTORY IS DEEPLY ROOTED Elements of the past when integrated with the present subconsciously form a stronger bond, a stronger connection to people. One needs to consider the origins and basis of a culture before one can fully understand. Taichung is as it is now because of several factors and one of them is their inclination towards rice cultivation – a key player in the development of Chinese culture. This element is incorporated in the design by defining the phases of rice cultivation and using them as basis for deriving the various textures and materials of the green roof. The three main phases of rice growth are: vegetative, reproductive and ripening translated to roofing materials such as vegetation, solar panels and rice husk tiles respectively. All of these provide a touch of history on the architecture of the modern day. A STRUCTURE OF PURE ARCHITECTURE The collision of two planes as a reaction to the massive buildings surrounding them is a serendipitous metaphor for the convergence of the two equally powerful programs. The library and the museum create great impact and pressure upon each other apparent in the final form. WHERE EVERYTHING MEETS The challenge is in creating a connection between people and the library museum – how to steer their curiosity and interest. < Back Presenting Manileño WTA Architecture and Design Studio 7 January 2021 Manileño is a masterplan that focuses on the people who make up the storied and vibrant communities, from Chinatown to Tondo, from Quiapo to Baclaran, that define Manila and make it the distinct heart of our country. Instead of the usual top-level master plans, It stitches together diverse communities(or barangays) that come together to form a kaleidoscope. Each community is developed around unique public amenities and plazas that allow its residents to develop a shared experience. These unique features are never too far from the next, encouraging not just exploration and interaction, but also making sure that the next community will have its own features that define the boundaries between communities. Shared experiences and defined boundaries strengthen and reinforce communal identity. The main highlight of Horizon Manila is the canal park, a unique and enriching feature that will define the lives of all its residents. The canal park not only connects the 3 islands but also provides Horizon with a public park at its core that stretches all the way to the water’s edge, ensuring that the Manila Bay sunset will always belong to the public. A viaduct with a monorail system allows direct access from Manila to the islands. From the Central Station, the trackless electric tram system loops around the development, and no place on the island will be more than a 5-minute walk away from a tram station. All the roads will be tree-lined and will feature 8m wide sidewalks with 3m arcades that ensures you can walk in the shade or away from the rain anywhere in Horizon. The development emphasizes personal mobility with pedestrian and bike lanes and looks to encourage a car-free lifestyle for most of its residents. Horizon Manila will feature hyper-local public amenities that give residents a diverse mix of programs and activities in each community. These facilities include micro libraries and pop-up galleries and museums, as well as the country’s first e-sports arena. A state-of-the-art basketball arena will be enhanced by basketball parks throughout the islands that reflect the prevalence of streetball in our culture. We see Horizon as the City of Tomorrow. Harnessing, polishing and applying textures and characters inspired from the outside environment within the interior spaces creating seamless transitions between two plans of everyday reality of indoors and outdoors. Tropical Loggia is a proposed home design situated in a residential beach community. The design aims to bring the environment indoors by opening up spaces and incorporating natural elements into the interior details. The entrance of the home was designed without a front door to encourage social interaction within the community. Instead, a long hallway welcomes visitors entering the home creating a soft boundary between the outside and inside. The program rethinks how people interact and view the home as a collection of spaces unified when sliding doors are opened up. Social spaces define this residential typology. Each space is thoughtfully designed for privacy, comfort and utility, which can transform into a spacious entertaining space when needed. All key areas were brought to the rear side of the house to allow people to enjoy the view of the lot. The rear side of the house was then opened up further to create more useful spaces and to take advantage of the view of the ocean. Natural elements - its textures and characteristics - were incorporated into the interiors of each space, allowing its users to still enjoy the ambience of its surroundings. Instead of making the chapel highly visible, in order to distinguish a separation from the nearby amusement park, the chapel is instead concealed and sunken with the dense vegetation of the forest. Upon parking, the approach to the chapel follows the four stages of Penance. The intention is a journey from the entry point where one starts as sinful and repentant. Once the users reach the chapel structure itself at the end of the journey, they are to feel cleansed and purified before the mass service. The form of the chapel itself was intended to be pure and simple in shape. The continuous curve’s geometry is informed by numbers taken from the Bible as illustrated above.
