Natural elements, an expansive swimming pool and lounge area, and an abundance of natural light inspired its overall design. Carefully designing the architecture and interiors to address the design brief required a layout, certain design solutions, and a choice of material that would allow sunlight to pass into the house from all angles. Creating multiple indoor family spaces that had a good view of the swimming pool and garden were also considered in the overall design. Strategically placing garden lightwells ensured natural light to filter into the home. The living, kitchen and dining areas offer views of the swimming pool enveloped by glass panels creating a bright, open and spacious atmosphere across all spaces on the ground level. The living area is complemented with a high ceiling creating a grand and voluminous space. With the use of decorative ventilation blocks and a cool neutral colour palette, the living area becomes breathable too. Fine natural finishes add a touch of luxury and elegance to this new home. Balay Luce is a modern home with plenty of natural and tropical elements, allowing for it to blend with the lush environment. It includes a basement floor where one can find a gym, a media room, a wine cellar, a mancave, alongside other rooms for house maintenance. The ground floor includes a sizable kitchen and dining room, an office, a living room and an external deck that leads to the swimming pool. The second floor is where one will find all the private bedrooms and a separate living room for the family. The spaces of the house were woven together with the intention to provide seamless circulation and cross ventilation. < Back The vision of Architect William Ti By: Anna Mae Lamentillo for Manila Bulletin Date: How would future communities look like? How would they adapt to the challenges of the present? How would architects address these challenges to create livable cities? Horizon Manila by WTA Architecture and Design Studio is an answer to these questions. No wonder it won big at the 2021 World Architecture Festival — winner for the WAFX Water Category, and overall winner of the 2021 WAFX Award. 17 December 2021 According to William Ti Jr., principal architect of WTA Architecture and Design Studio, “When I think of tomorrow, all I want to see and hear are children playing and laughing; creating memories in thriving communities. The future is all about the next generation. It is about us finding a way to prosper in the human environments we have built for ourselves.” William Ti Jr. Anchored on this vision, Ti and his team conceptualized Horizon Manila, a 419-hectare reclamation project in Manila Bay that seeks to house 150,000 Manileños. It will be composed of three islands connected by a canal park. The aim is to grow 28 diverse communities similar to how we have barangays. These communities will grow around schools, churches, ball courts, parks, museums, theaters, and shopping centers. These communities will naturally grow together through shared experiences. HYPER LOCAL COMMUNITIES – Each of the communities in Horizon Manila are distinct and detailed to create hyper local communities. Green, walkable, sustainable Horizon Manila or Manileño will be a green space. It will increase the available public open space by over 50 percent in the city with its canal park and provide almost 20-kilometer of waterfront living. There will be tree-lined sidewalks and bike lanes, arcaded walkways, and a tram line that connects the three islands. Over 70 percent of the shoreline will be planted with mangroves. This will allow people to walk all the way to the water’s edge and enjoy walks by the shore with the sunset and the skyline view.Ti said they want people to reconnect with nature and appreciate public space. AERIAL VIEW of the three islands of Horizon Manila with Manila in the background. “We are building a city where you are always 400 meters away from the nearest tram or ferry station and anywhere in the three islands is always just 15 minutes away. More than half of Horizon’s streetscape will be primarily pedestrian,” said Ti. Another interesting detail of the project is the plan to harvest rainwater to solve water scarcity. Ti explained that Horizon will provide over three million cubic meters of freshwater reserve by collecting the annual rainfall. The projection is that the water reservoir can provide five months’ worth of freshwater to the city. Manila, reimagined While Horizon Manila is forward-looking, it remains rooted on the heritage of Manila. The reintroduction of canals, reservoirs, and waterways aims to rekindle the memory of what it means to be Tagalog, to live by the river. CANAL PARK – The Canal Park at Horizon Manila acts as the main spine around which the communities will grow. Meanwhile, each community or barangay, while distinct, will grow around a shared common ground. This is reflective of the historical districts of Manila, distinct yet interconnected — like how people can walk from Divisoria to Binondo, to Sta Cruz and Raon, from Ermita to Intramuros, from Malacañang to España. Plenty of natural elements are incorporated into the design, while still maintaining comfort within. Areas are intended to create unique experiences for all and were designed to utilize textures and finishes that translate the same essence of design all throughout. Bigger sets of furniture and lower furniture were used to create multiple intimate lounge spaces. Neutral and warm shades were used to evoke comfort and familiarity. Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, emphasizes form and balance. Its arrangement expresses both purity and simplicity. Moreover, the three main levels symbolize heaven, earth and human kind creating elegant and carefully curated asymmetry. The principle of Ikebana forms the program of the house. The site’s section view shows the vertical access which acts as the main stalk while rooms stem out from it. Asymmetry embodies the room cuts while the appropriate allocation of areas and standards keep it balanced. Strategically placed, pocket gardens create stark contrasts against the geometric and sleek silhouette of the façade within the site. The Ikebana house brings natural elements into the home. Natural light and pockets of private gardens evoke a connection with the environment. An open floor plan creates a connection between the living room, dining room and the kitchen creating an open, bright and spacious ground floor.. Bright and warm tones, a natural look and an appearance that communicates balance and elegance sets the interior of the entire home.

Agliam | PGIN-CMO 2 February 2020 ILOCOS NORTE – Adapting to the growing developmental needs of its people while safeguarding the province’s heritage, the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte unveiled the architectural plans of the “Big 3” infrastructure projects, particularly the “sustainable” Capitol building and new Ferdinand E. Marcos (FEM) Stadium, last February 3. One of the highlights of the 202nd founding anniversary celebration of the province is the commencement of the “2020 Ilocos Norte Development Masterplan,” and in-depth discussion of the “Big 3” infrastructure projects. The “Big 3” are the Provincial Capitol expansion building, the Ferdinand E. Marcos Stadium rehabilitation, and the Dap-ayan Center redevelopment. According to Architect Rex Hofilena, the new Capitol design is based on the “heritage-inspired new Ilocos Norte architecture.” “The final design has to be anchored on heritage, Ilocano culture and tradition, and green architecture. The proposed Capitol now has an imposing dome at the center to symbolize authority,” Architect Hofilena pointed out in his presentation. Meanwhile, Architect William Ti, the consulting architect of FEM stadium, designed the sports facility according to the social architecture approach. “The stadium has to be something that people can go to. It has to be accessible to everyone. It has to be open. The stadium is not only for the athletes but it will also serve the whole province,” Architect Ti remarked. The iconic structure is characterized by the connectivity of different facilities, vast space, simple structure, and distinct weaving design. It is bounded by Calero Street which connects the downtown plaza of Balanga with the proposed future city center site along Enrique Garcia Sr. Avenue which connects to the provincial highway. The existing terminal structure is currently one of of not the biggest structure in Balanga. It is a 3-storey structure that dwarfs most of the surrounding properties. Current site conditions show a lack of pedestrianoriented planning and human scale. This mechanical and alien development has created a kind of termination for Balanga’s northward expansion. Priority is given to vehicular traffic and convenience rather than to passenger safety and comfort. This upended organizing principle coupled with the openness of the surrounding landscape has given rise to a noise-polluted and barely walk-able development. The program calls for the development of an integrated central bus and jeepney terminal for Balanga and Bataan. Together with this terminal, a convention center and commercial retail center is to be developed. A 112-room business hotel will also be developed to support these programs.
