While vehicular bridges function as a bypass, a pedestrian bridge offers alternative transport options, brings people together and creates social benefits to changing urban fabrics. With this current infrastructural void in Metro Manila, the Riverlane pedestrian bridge project aims to unite two neighboring cities by prioritizing human activity, connections, and scale. Tapping into architecture as a solution to urban issues and emphasizing synergies between different ecologies and urban systems. The form of this bridge is derived from the concept of twisting and knotting. The Riverlane responds to an increased need for pedestrian mobility. As our cities struggle over transportation and mobility amidst lockdowns, vehicular traffic, and increased transportation costs, wider walking paths must be given priority. It has become the studio’s motive to plan streets and walkways to promote pedestrianization, encouraging biking and walking over driving.

The site is located in Ferrol, Tablas Island fronting the ivory-white sands of Binucot beach. Also at its front is the Binucot Sea Turtle Sanctuary, where female turtles safely return from their migrations to lay eggs of their own, thus the property takes its name "Pawikan" from this phenomenon unique to the site. Locals take pride in the spectacular sunset view that can be witnessed in Binucot beach. It is considered to be a tourist destination that is largely uncharted in the country. The designers maximized surrounding views by opening the house up on opposing ends, giving the users a specially intimate encounter with the surrounding environment.
